What is the SDGs?

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are international goals for the period from 2016 to 2030 established in the “2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” adopted at the United Nations Summit held in September 2015.
It consists of 17 goals with 169 targets to realize a sustainable world, and pledges to leave no one behind.

We will prioritize
the following five goals
and create new businesses
to achieve SDGs.

GOALS Initiative Policy TOPICS for Implementation
Social
We aim to develop products that protect peoples’ lives and social infrastructure from disaster regardless of existing frameworks.

Social
We will contribute to urban development with the strength to withstand disasters that are increasing in severity through the development, manufacture and sale of products.
Details
Environment
We will create a sustainable cycle for the ocean through our products, and pass abundant ocean resources to the next generation.
Furthermore, seaweed, which is included in ocean resources, will facilitate blue carbon (CO2 absorption), and contribute to the protection of the earth’s environment as well.
Creation of

Environment
While we are naturally thoroughly committed to quality control, we will also monitor CO2 emissions and the amount of industrial waste, and work on activities to continuously reduce them.

Social
We will provide a workplace that employees will not regret devoting their lives to.
We will create a work environment where each and every employee can demonstrate their capabilities, based on protecting all employees’ rights.

Contribution to Society Through
okabe’s Business

INDUSTRY, INNOVATION
AND INFRASTRUCTURE

We aim to develop products that protect peoples’ lives and social infrastructure from disaster regardless of existing frameworks.

To achieve this goal, we are focusing on recruiting and cultivating human resources, and first-class registered architects and professionals holding doctorates are continuing to research and develop every day.
Furthermore, for the creation of an environment where these human resources can work on research to their hearts’ content, we have the “integrated experiment center,” which is one of the largest research and development facilities for a construction material manufacturer in Japan, in Shimotsuma City, Ibaraki Prefecture.

SUSTAINABLE CITIES
AND COMMUNITIES

We will contribute to urban development with the strength to withstand disasters that are increasing in severity through the development, manufacture and proposal of products.

In order to contribute to urban development with the strength to withstand disasters that are increasing in severity and imminent massive earthquakes, we are developing, manufacturing and selling building structural materials that have earthquake proofing and seismic isolation functions.
We have also been working on environmental protection in the field of civil engineering through various methods to enable the reinforcement of embankments while simultaneously adding vegetation. Going forward, we will research and develop products to solve social issues, such as the deterioration of social infrastructure and the decrease of the construction work force due to the low birthrate and aging population, and work toward their realization.

LIFE BELOW WATER

We will create a sustainable cycle for the ocean through our products, and pass abundant ocean resources to the next generation.
Furthermore, seaweed, which is included in ocean resources, will facilitate blue carbon (CO2 absorption), and contribute to the protection of the earth’s environment as well.

Create a sustainable society
for the ocean

①Seaweed bed banks: help the growth of spawning grounds for ocean life and seaweed, ② Proliferation banks: help the growth of fish through the production of food, etc. for young fish hatched from eggs, and ③ Fish reefs and floating fish banks: gather large fish and assist in making a more efficient fishing industry. By providing these three products, we will increase ocean life and seaweed while passing ocean resources to the next generation. We are contributing to the creation of this kind of sustainable cycle for the ocean.

  1. Seaweed bed banks

Seaweed beds (spaces where seaweed grows en masse), which are decreasing due to the impact of global warming, etc., are currently being restored artificially. In addition to submerging seaweed beds into the ocean, we are contributing to the restoration of seaweed beds by providing seaweed seeds and seedlings that match the ocean environment based on the research results of seaweed cultivated at Oki Research Center, which we own.
The restored seaweed beds will not only contribute to an increase in fish by being a spawning ground for fish and nursery for young fish, but will also contribute to blue carbon (CO2 absorption) with seaweed.

  2. Proliferation banks

Young fish born in seaweed beds will grow into adult fish. We are contributing to growing large fish even more securely by providing the production of food for fish, shelter, etc.

  3. Fish reefs and floating fish
    banks

Adult fish that were born and raised in the seaweed bed banks and proliferation banks will gather. We are assisting an efficient fishing industry, and supporting Japan’s fish-based dietary culture.

RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION
AND PRODUCTION

While we are naturally thoroughly committed to quality control, we will also monitor the reduction of CO2 and the amount of industrial waste, and work on activities to continuously reduce emissions.

We will not only carry out the quality control of the products themselves, but also quantitatively measure the CO2 emitted by manufacturing processes, industrial waste, etc., and implement activities for continuous improvement. We will work to not only “provide safety and security,” but also “protect the environment” through our products.

DECENT WORK
AND ECONOMIC GROWTH

We will provide a workplace that employees will not regret devoting their lives to. We will create a work environment where each and every employee can demonstrate their capabilities, based on protecting all employees’ rights.

We will promote the creation of a comfortable workplace environment by providing various working styles that match employees’ individual situations, such as telework, reduced working hours to help with childcare, etc., working to empower female employees, and improving the work environment by increasing business efficiency.
In addition to these measures, we will also provide jobs that are worthwhile to employees, such as with the “Mirai Project,” where any employee can propose a new business.
